Fire Safety In The Home-Do It Or Die

Ignorance is no excuse especially when it comes to fire safety in the home.

In any situation it’s always easy to blame someone else or pretend you didn’t know. Well we know that everyone knows that fire kills and creates billions of dollars worth of damage each and every year.

Simply put, we all have the responsibility to keep ourselves and our family safe. That means educating ourselves. Oh great now we are going to hear there just isn’t any time. Well I am here to tell you that learning and practicing fire safety in the home takes less time than building a new home or planning a funeral for a loved one.

Your local fire department in almost all cases would be more than willing to help you and your family out with all your fire escape plans. They will come down, sit with the family and go through every detail needed to put a plan in place.

However once the plan is in place it is up to you to keep it working. This means once a month or so you will want to practice your fire escape plan. You will want to do this from each and every room in the house.

We are also responsible to take care of all the little things that can be easily forgotten. Some of these are checking smoke detectors, maintaining your electrical, checking fire extinguishers, cleaning the fire place and so much more.

Another big issue we seem to forget about in fire safety in the home is our children. We all know that no child wants to burn the house down. Well we also know that all children just love fire. So we have to take that love of fire and teach them how bad fire can be. We need them to understand the dangers. This may involve explain some pretty bad things but you would be surprised what shock value can come out of it.

Of course no one wants a fire in their home. The problem though is kind of like out of sight out of mind. So many people never do any planning until it’s too late. They usually end up living through a bad experience at least once before realizing what can actually happen.

It’s time to start being pro active instead of reactive. Doing this will have you and others almost never having to worry about a fire in your home. Practising fire safety in the home is the only way to go.

Too many people forget about fire safety in the home especially around this time of the year.

Dale wants to remind people to get it back to the top of their list when it comes to safety.
